Latest Updates from Our Project:

All surveys have now been sent!
about 3 years ago – Fri, Feb 26, 2021 at 12:43:46 AM

Hello everyone!

Just to let you know that most of the test surveys have been completed and are looking good so the rest of everyone's surveys have now gone out. Thank you to the test survey folks who completed theirs so quickly!

A couple of answers to some queries I've received (please do keep them coming if anything is unclear):

  • you don't need to add the free sticker sheet to your pledge on BackerKit - a sticker sheet will be included automatically (and you'll be able to see this in your "cart" at the add-on stage), so only add extra sticker sheets in the "add on" stage if you want more.
  • folks who didn't back the campaign can now access a pre-order store for a limited time only, so be sure to tell any friends who might be interested in these goodies at the discounted prices!
  • the deadline for surveys is 10 March - after this date, you will only be able to change your address on the survey but not your responses/choices.
  • for any add-ons added via BackerKit (and that were not added on Kickstarter), cards won't be charged until early April to make spreading the cost a little easier for everyone!
  • the tracking upgrade is in addition to postage already paid and there are different UK, Europe, and International fees, so please be sure to use the correct location choice when adding tracked shipping to your pledge.
  • rewards will be shipped from the UK - I am currently in Japan and that's why the project is in JPY, however due to an unforeseen change in personal circumstances, we have to leave Japan and move back to sunny(!) Britain before the end of March (and before rewards will be ready for shipping). Therefore all parcels will be shipped with Royal Mail rather than Japan Post (making it now possible to offer tracked shipping - Japan Post sadly isn't sending tracked mail out to most destinations). Sorry for any confusion!

By way of a production update, I've approved proofs of the washi tape and lanyards, the sticker sheets are ready to be ordered, and my pin manufacturer is finalising the art proofs (having sent all the Pantones to them earlier this week), so as soon as Kickstarter funds arrive with me next week, I can green light everyone to begin production!

As ever, please let me know if you have any questions.

Survey Instructions
about 3 years ago – Thu, Feb 25, 2021 at 05:00:48 PM

Hello everyone! Apologies for the delay in sending out surveys - because I'm in Japan and the BackerKit team are in the US, our timezones are totally out of sync so a lot of setup queries were delayed as a result. I'm happy to say the surveys finally look to be in good shape! Below is some guidance on how to use the BackerKit site - please check it out before completing your survey if you get time.

What happens next?

Over the next 24 hours, only a few 'smoke test' surveys will be sent out - this means the survey will be sent to a handful of random backers from various pledge levels to ensure there are no issues with our BackerKit page. Provided everything works as it should, links to surveys will be sent out to everyone else after that and I'll post another update by the end of the week to let you know when the remaining links have gone out. Please make sure to check your spam/junk folders if you can't find the survey email. If you still have any questions about BackerKit which can't be answered by the below guidance or BackerKit's own FAQs, please feel free to message me on Kickstarter or email me at [email protected].

General Information about the BackerKit surveys

The deadline for survey responses is 10 March 2021 - I can accept address changes right up until I ship pledges but you won't be able to change your pin/lanyard/tape choices after this date, so please (1) try to complete the survey by then and (2) double check your survey to ensure you're happy with everything.

You don’t need to create a BackerKit account to fill out your survey, just the survey link. If you used Facebook to log in to your Kickstarter account, the BackerKit survey is sent to the email address you use for your Facebook account. If you need me to change the email address your BackerKit survey is linked to, please let me know ASAP.

When you receive the email with the survey, click the survey link to respond. You can go back later and change your responses at any time before I lock in the surveys. If you need to double-check your responses or pledge status, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email again or by requesting a survey link under "Lost your survey?" on the project page

How to use your survey

Your survey will be based on the pledge tier you've selected in the Kickstarter. For this guide, I'll be using the 5x Pins tier as an example and pretend I pledged the exact amount. If you added extras via Kickstarter or if you were entitled to any freebies because of your pledge level, they will automatically be reflected in your survey. You do not need to add the free sticker sheet to your pledge, for example. This also means that if you pledged at a 2x Pin tier, but added 3 or more pins (thus qualifying you for free washi tape and lanyard set) for example, the survey will know to ask you for your lanyard/tape choice.

Once you click "Get Started!" you will be asked to select the locations of the Fantastic Places pins that you've pledged for. If you're eligible for a free additional pin and/or a free tape and lanyard set, you will also be asked to choose which designs you'd like.

After you've made your choices, you'll be taken to the add-on stage. On the top right corner under "Pledge Level", you will see the items you've selected. If you qualify for any freebies, they will appear here so you do not need to add them. They will automatically be added to your list of rewards. In this example, the 5x Pins tier qualifies for a free tape and lanyard set and a free additional pin, and the user has not needed to 'buy' these as add-ons. Any extra money you pledged on Kickstarter which has not been assigned to a reward will show as "Credit Remaining" on the right-hand side in green.

Below that under "Add-ons" is where any additional items you add using BackerKit will show. The add-ons page means that you can still take advantage of the Kickstarter discount pricing if you decide you want to add additional items, plus my in-store pins are in there at a reduced price too!

For example, if this backer wanted to now add another washi tape and lanyard set to their pledge, this is what their page would look like:

On the following page ("Shipping"), you can fill out your address. You will be able to change your address right up until I am ready to ship rewards out. I'll post an update a few days before I start shipping things out to give folks enough time to make any changes to their address.

On the final page, you will be able to input your credit card details for any additional add-on items you may have added that were not covered by your Kickstarter pledge. If you didn't add any extras, you just need to hit "Place My Order" and I've got your survey response! Cards will not be charged for any extras added using BackerKit until 3-4 weeks before rewards are shipping out, so sometime in early April.

After you've submitted your survey, you can go back and edit your choices as much as you like, but responses cannot be changed after 10 March 2021 save for address updates.

 Dropped Backers

Around 40 backers corrected the payment errors on Kickstarter and several paid directly with PayPal - thank you! Whether you paid with Kickstarter,  Etsy, or PayPal, you should receive your BackerKit survey with everyone else. For those who have now been 'dropped' from the project, if you'd like to rejoin please do PayPal me ([email protected]) within the next week - this will give you time before the deadline to send (and amend, if needed) your responses before I lock in surveys and will ensure there are no delays in starting production. If you've been dropped you've likely lost your backer number. Therefore when sending any PayPal payment, please quote either the name the pledge was under or the email address associated with your Kickstarter account. It's possible that you will receive a survey link even if you are dropped - please hold off from completing your survey until your pledge has been paid.

And that's it! Thank you for reading this guide. If you do not receive a link to your survey from BackerKit over the next few days or have any other questions, feel free to comment down below, send me a message privately on Kickstarter, or email me (with your backer ID) at [email protected].

Thanks again!

Pledge Collection Issues
about 3 years ago – Sat, Feb 20, 2021 at 03:59:15 AM

Hi everyone! Happy Friday/Saturday (depending on your timezone)!

Just a quick update on pledge collection. I've got about 60 backers who have "errored" pledges - this means Kickstarter was unable to charge your card. It tends to be because the project is in Yen (sorry for the currency choice - not in my control unfortunately) and your banking institution may have red flagged the transaction.

Having spoken to a few folks who asked me for ways around this, I can offer two solutions. The first would be to wait until the BackerKit preorder store is open and grab them through that, though you may have the same card issue at checkout. Therefore the second solution is probably best - I can accept pledges via PayPal.

Should you want to arrange payment through PayPal, please send the total amount of your pledge (including shipping) to [email protected] and, if possible, add a note to say what your backer number is so I can track it on my side. You can find out your backer number by going to the project page and viewing your pledge. If you can't find the backer number, a note with the name the pledge is under works great too. Folks who pay using PayPal will still get their BackerKit surveys next week like everyone else.

If you need to check whether your card payment was successful, this can also be viewed on the "view my pledge" section. Here is an example below: "collected" means payment went through fine. If it says "errored", the payment did not go through.

Sorry again for any card payment issues! There are only 3 days before Kickstarter drops your pledge so if you'd like to remain a backer, please try to make the payment as soon as possible. Thank you!

Thank you, everyone!

We did it!

This campaign has finished and we ended up funded by over 7600%! What started as only 16 pins (and I was afraid we wouldn't unlock those..) has ended up as 25 pins AND some awesome freebies for backers, so I just want to say a huge THANK YOU to all 845 of you! The amazing backers who pledged for pins and the folks who spread the word on social media have made it a huge success and the pins wouldn't exist without you. Thank you!

What's next?

Over the next couple of days, Kickstarter will attempt to collect your pledge from the card associated with your account (if it hasn't already!). If your card is declined, Kickstarter gives you 7 days to fix your payment before your pledge is dropped from the campaign. In two weeks (around 2 March), I will then receive the funds from Kickstarter.  I have been proactive and have already ordered the backing cards. Now that I have a final backer count, I can order the sticker sheets. I'll need to wait to start production on the lanyards, washi tape, and the pins themselves until we've got final counts on BackerKit.

BackerKit Surveys

For this campaign, I will be using BackerKit to send out surveys and collect addresses. This will enable me to clearly see which pin(s) and other rewards each backer would like as well as which add-ons everyone has pledged for, and it also allows you to tack on any extras that you'd like from the campaign (plus add things like tracked shipping and in-store pins). I am currently still finalizing the BackerKit survey to ensure there are no mistakes and once BackerKit has checked there are no technical issues on their side, I will be sending the surveys out to everyone. So, please keep an eye out for your link in your email inbox during next week

I'll post a second update once all the surveys have been sent out with more instructions on how to use BackerKit. I know BackerKit can be confusing to those who haven't used it before so please do check those instructions and/or the BackerKit FAQs (which you will be able to access from the survey). Additionally, if you know anyone who missed out on the campaign, I'll have a preorder store available through BackerKit for a couple of weeks! The store will go live around the same time as when I send out the backer surveys.

 Timeline Reminder

Here is a quick reminder of the estimated timeline for this campaign. If anything should arise that may delay the timeline, I'll make sure to notify all of you as soon as possible.

  • 16 February (today): campaign ends
  • 23 February: surveys should hopefully be sent out by this date
  • 2 March: funds received from Kickstarter and manufacture can begin - surveys will be locked in and only addresses can be changed after this date
  • March-early April: pins, tape, and lanyards in production, then sent to me for checking and packaging
  • mid-to-late April: your pins are sent to you!

Thank you again! I'm so excited to see all the pins and extra rewards we unlocked, and even more excited to send them out to all of you. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to DM me here or email me at [email protected].

All stretch goals unlocked!
about 3 years ago – Sat, Feb 06, 2021 at 03:18:21 PM

Thank you so much, everyone!

We've now funded all 25 pin designs as well as the free sticker sheet for all backers AND the free washi tape and lanyard sets for those who pledge for 5 or more pins! I'm so excited and grateful that all of these awesome pins and rewards will become real - thank you again.

Couple more updates/FAQ answers:

  • I've created 10x, 15x, 20x, and 25x pin tiers to make pledging for higher quantities easier as I didn't know Kickstarter seems to limit the number of additional pin add-ons you can add on. This seems to be a default KS setting because the add-ons themselves are unlimited on my side. Unfortunately, this won't be any help to Early Bird backers who will need to use the add-on function as normal.
  • I've created a limited quantity (10) "Well-Travelled Traveller" tier - this is basically one of every single pin in the collection plus every lanyard and washi tape set at a discounted price (instead of $226 for 25 pins and one free tape and lanyard set, it's $200 for absolutely everything!).  I don't know how popular or not this tier will be as the fandoms are quite varied, but the option is there if you wanted to pick up all the lanyards/tape and pins!
  • As a reminder, if you pledge for 4 or more pins, you get an extra one for free of any design. You don't have to add that free one on to your pledge - the way the surveys will be set up, they will automatically include your free pin.
  • There is no requirement to have all different pins in your pledge - you can have any number of duplicates as you like. So, if you pledged for 4 pins and just want 4 Enterprises, that's totally okay! The survey will ask you to choose which pins you want and it's totally your decision how many you have of each design.
  • The lanyards and washi tapes will be available as add-ons in BackerKit.

I think that's all from me but if you have any questions, please feel free to pop them in the comments below, in the project's comments section, or send them via DM/email. Folks have been great at asking questions so please keep them coming if anything is unclear.

Thank you again!
